Girls Getaway (Gone With The Wind Tour)
July 6th - 7th, 2018
Ladies, join us on this great adventure as we journey to Jonesboro, GA to enjoy the Gone with the Wind Experience. You will be treated & feel like a Southern Belle before this tour is over.
Day 1: There will be games & trivia as we travel. After lunch, our tour begins with our costumed tour guide @ The Road to Tara Museum strolling among the costumes reproductions, original movie props & see all the items from the famous movie and artifacts from the Civic War. Our step-on guide will join us next for a tour of Jonesboro. The guide will point out Ashley Oaks Mansion, built in 1880 with over 1 million locally-made brick. You will see Stately Oaks Plantation. This 1839 Greek Revival’s planter home has been restored as a museum, outbuildings, and entire seven-acre Margaret Mitchell Park. We will follow the path of the brave men and Southern Belles as we sit back & listen on a historical journey through Jonesboro. You will hear captivating stories about 100 years of history & heritage of Jonesboro during this time. You will see the Patrick R. Cleburne Memorial Confederate Cemetery where among the mass graves more than 600 fallen Confederate soldiers are buried. Listen as we pass by the Warren House, that served as a hospital for the Confederate & then Union soldiers. See the intersection of Rhett Butler & Scarlett Drives. Our next stop is Stately Oaks Plantation. You will be greeted by Rhett Butler, with lots of hugs & photo ops. He is such a charmer. A true Southern Dinner will be enjoyed this evening @ Stately Oaks Plantation in the Bethel One Room School House. Immediately following dinner, you will learn the “Language of the Fan” and how important it was during this time. After dinner, you will enjoy a tour of Stately Oaks Plantation with your costumed docent. After a day to remember, we check into our hotel for the night. (D)
Day 2: After breakfast, we will tour the Margaret Mitchell House. A woman named Peggy Marsh to her friends, wrote a big book that sold faster than hot cakes in the apartment, she called “The Dump”. You’ll hear stories of what made Peggy so notorious, her scandalous dance performance, stories of her 2 marriages and learn about the legacy of her philanthropic work after Gone With the Wind. After the tour, we will stop @ the Mall of Georgia for lunch on your own & to shop, shop, shop! We will return home this evening after an exciting weekend. (B)
